Today I’ve got a video for you titled “Golf Swing Plane Made Easy” which includes some great golf swing plane drills. A lot of golfers really struggle with their swing plane, but most of the struggles are because they get in their own way. As you’ll see in this video, the golf club is actually designed to swing on plane, you just have to get out of the way and let the club do its job.
I know that’s easier said than done, so in the video above I give you a few “drills and feels” you can use to achieve a perfect swing plane.
Also, if you haven’t done so already, please make sure to pick up my “Solid Strike Formula” video course. It’s yours absolutely free! Just click here for instant access.
Based on the tens of thousands of lessons I’ve given, and 30+ years of experience I have as a Class A PGA Professional, I can tell you that if you practice these things and work on these easy golf swing plane drills you will build a more consistent, reliable golf swing.
Here are a few keys to improving your swing plane:
1. Get the Club “Swinging” from the Get Go
One of the “fatal flaws” I see regarding swing plane is when golfers try to manipulate the club with their hands and “stick the club” into certain positions. This is a losing proposition that almost never works.
In order to start your golf swing on plane with a perfect takeaway, you need to make sure you’re starting the club by swinging it, not trying to place it with your hands.
2. Try This Golf Swing Plane Drill to “Feel the Drag”
One of my favorite golf swing plane drills for “feeling the drag” in your takeaway and starting your golf swing on plane can be seen in the video above at the 1:48 mark. Basically, you modify your grip so that you’re holding the club lightly in your fingers, and just let the club swing back and forth on plane.
This drill teaches you the feel for letting the club do the work, as opposed to trying to place the club. You may feel a little drag which is fine. Some of the greatest ball strikers of all-time have had a little drag in their takeaway.
3. Add the Downward Pressure to Set the Club on Plane
Once you’ve started your backswing on plane, you need to set the club by applying downward pressure to the handle. I’ve got a drill for you in the video above where I demonstrate how to do this correctly so that you continue to swing the club on plane all the way to the top of your backswing.
So What’s the Next Step?
I hope these golf swing plane drills help you! Now here’s what you need to do next. I’ve recently put together a FREE 3-part video training series called the “Solid Strike Formula” that has already helped thousands of golfers start hitting solid, high, and accurate iron shots more consistently.
In addition, several Top 100 instructors have told me how great the course is, and that I’m a little crazy to give it away for free, but that’s what I’m doing right now, but only for a limited time!
