Hi I’m Adam Bazalgette, 3-Time PGA Teacher of the Year and Founder of Scratch Golf Academy.
Today, I want to give you some of my best golf downswing drills that will help you stop rushing your downswing while improving your tempo, transition, and ultimately your ball-striking.
Also, if you haven’t done so already, please make sure to pick up my “Solid Strike Formula” video course. It’s yours absolutely free! Just click here for instant access.
Ok first things first, it’s important to understand why you’re rushing your downswing before you can fix it. Based on the tens of thousands of lessons I’ve given, and 30+ years of experience I have as a Class A PGA Professional, I’ve identified 3 specific characteristics that lead to a rushed downswing.
In most cases, the underlying problems start in the backswing, or even at the address position. So if you want to correct your downswing issues, you may need to actually look at your backswing first.
Here are a few keys to fixing your rushed downswing:
1. You Must Improve Your Backswing by Synchronizing Your Pivot and Storing Energy Correctly
This may sound a little complicated or intimidating, but it’s actually quite simple. If you want to stop rushing your downswing and stop being too quick or “jerky” from the top of your backswing, you’ve got to work on golf downswing drills that help you complete your backswing by synchronizing your pivot and storing energy correctly.
The reason most golfers fail to do this is that they think in terms of “turn” instead of “pivot.” While I encourage you to watch the entire video above, you really need to pay close attention to my short breakdown of Francesco Molinar’s golf swing, as well as the drill that I give you starting at about the 1:33 mark. It’s a game changer.
2. You Must Continue Storing Power on Your Downswing Instead of Releasing Energy too Early
Typically, if your downswing feels rushed or your tempo is too quick, you’re not storing maximum energy until right at impact. In the video above, I show you two of my favorite drills (the bag drill, and the two finger drill) that will help you automatically correct this issue without thinking.
You’ll be able to quiet your mind and just let things happen. Make sure to view the video and try them!
3. Identify and Correct Your Golf Downswing Agitators
Golf downswing agitators are overarching problems in your swing that can really keep you from starting your downswing correctly. While it’s a lengthy subject, two of the most common ones I see involve a poor grip, and poor balance.
If either of these fundamental components is off, swinging the golf club correctly becomes very difficult. Make sure to watch the video above to see my “cures” for these common golf downswing agitators.
So What’s the Next Step?
I’ve recently put together a FREE 3-part video training series called the “Solid Strike Formula” that has already helped thousands of golfers start hitting solid, high, and accurate iron shots more consistently.
In addition, several Top 100 instructors have told me how great the course is, and that I’m a little crazy to give it away for free, but that’s what I’m doing right now, but only for a limited time!
